Redskins Skip Robert Griffin III in Jersey Countdown

Just when you thought their relationship Robert Griffin III couldn’t get any stranger, the Washington Redskins found a new way to ostracize their former starting quarterback.  The Redskins have been running a series of social media posts this offseason using players’ jersey numbers to count down the days remaining until kickoff.  Nothing about the gimmick was particularly noteworthy until the countdown reached day #10.   Ten, as many Redskins fans know, just happens to be the number of the team’s most famous player.  Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post was one of the first to recognize that things just weren’t adding up.

Just to be clear, that is not Robert Griffin III in the #10 panel, but rather Trent Williams, who should have been featured in the campaign approximately two months ago by my count.

In the span of one week, the Washington Redskins have managed to demote RGIII from the starting quarterback role, give him a standing ovation, and then intentionally leave him off the team’s social media campaign. Things aren’t all bad for Griffin, though. Rumor has it that the Redskins have offered to let him use the FedEx Field Will Call for only $20.
