The Los Angeles Dodgers needed a starting pitcher and help in the outfield. They got both in a trade with the Oakland Athletics on Monday.
Per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Dodgers acquired Rich Hill and Josh Reddick from the A’s in exchange for three pitching prospects: Frankie Montas, Grant Holmes and Jharel Cotton.

Reddick, 29, is hitting .296 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs this season. The left-handed hitter has excelled against right-handed pitching, as all eight of his home runs have come against right-handers.
In 14 starts this season, Hill is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA, 90 strikeouts and a 1.09 WHIP. The A’s had reportedly been discussing an extension with the 36-year-old left-hander while continuing to shop him. Hill hasn’t pitched since July 17 because of a blister on his throwing hand.
Rosenthal notes the Dodgers could re-sign both Reddick and Hill, who are free agents after this season.
Keep in mind: #Dodgers in position to re-sign both Hill and Reddick if they choose. Might have factored into willingness to pay steep price.

These players help the Dodgers immediately. Reddick can be an everyday player for them in the outfield, and Hill is going to be near the top of the rotation when he comes off the DL.
