Report: Free agent RB C.J. Spiller visiting Packers

Still in search of answers on offense, the Green Bay Packers are reportedly hosting a once explosive, multi-talented running back on Tuesday.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, free agent running back C.J. Spiller is spending the day visiting the Packers.

The New Orleans Saints released Spiller after making him a healthy scratch in Week 1. He had signed a four-year, $16 million deal in New Orleans in 2015, but the former first-round pick only saw 70 touches over 13 games with the Saints.

The Packers could use the spark.

Eddie Lacy and James Starks have struggled to get going on the ground, and neither player is considered a major threat in the passing game. While Spiller hasn’t been a reliable rusher for the better part of the last three years, he does have 192 career receptions in 83 games.

The Packers scored just 14 points and struggled to move the football during Sunday night’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Who knows if Spiller would play a big role for the Packers, but he could provide some juice to Green Bay’s short passing game, especially on third down.
