Report: Larry Fitzgerald likely to retire after this season

Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals have their sights set on Super Bowl LI after reaching the NFC championship game in 2015.

Now, the Cardinals’ focus on that goal might be even sharper because 2016 could be Larry Fitzgerald’s final season.

The 33-year-old Fitzgerald experienced a career renaissance last season with 109 receptions, fifth in the league. He has 1,018 career receptions and needs three more to pass Jason Witten and get into the top 10 all-time. Isaac Bruce is ninth on the list with 1,024, so Fitzgerald and Witten both are likely to pass him and have spots in the top 10.

Fitzgerald also has produced his share of postseason highlights. He caught seven passes, two for touchdowns, in the Cardinals’ loss to the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. He caught the game-winning touchdown in last year’s overtime win over the Packers in the NFC divisional playoffs.

Fitzgerald has never caught less than 58 passes in a season (and that was his rookie year) in his 12-year career and he’s played in at least 13 games every year. He has a realistic chance to ride into the sunset with a Super Bowl ring.
