Report: Marlins activate Giancarlo Stanton from DL

He’s back.

The Miami Marlins announced that Giancarlo Stanton has been reinstated from the disabled list and is activated for Tuesday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Stanton, who suffered a left groin strain on Aug. 13 and has missed the last 22 games, was expected to miss the remainder of the season but is now ready to return. He will be used as a pinch-hitter only for now, but it’s unclear when he’ll be able to return to the starting lineup, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

The 26-year-old was hitting .244 with 25 home runs and 70 RBIs prior to the injury.

Stanton rejoins the team at a critical time, with the Marlins sitting five games out of the second wild card spot in the NL. Miami has dropped nine of the last 10 games and is desperate for a spark. Stanton might be that spark.
