Report: Robert Griffin III “could be out for a while’ with shoulder injury

Robert Griffin’s bad luck with injuries has followed him to Cleveland.

The Browns quarterback injured his left shoulder in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 29-10 loss to Philadelphia. And while Griffin said after the game he would be available to play Week 2 against Baltimore, it looks like he might miss a couple of games.

Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager is reporting that Griffin “could be out for a while,” opening the door for 37-year-old Josh McCown to start under center. The Browns entertained trade offers for the veteran quarterback during the offseason but refused to get anything less than a high draft pick for him, knowing that Griffin has had trouble with injuries in the past.

In eight games with the Browns last season, McCown threw for 2,109 yards, 12 touchdowns and he completed 63.7 percent of his passes. Third-round pick Cody Kessler out of USC is also a possibility at quarterback for Cleveland.

Griffin’s first game with his new team did not go as planned. On top of getting hurt, the former second overall pick had a miserable outing as he went 12-of-26 for 190 yards with an interception and no touchdowns.
