The 39-year-old Beltran is hitting .304 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs this season. He is in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent after this season.
Tate, 22, is the Rangers’ fifth-rated prospect, according to MLB.com. He is 3-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 17 games with Single-A Hickory this season.
The Rangers get a big bat to help them replace Prince Fielder, who had season-ending neck surgery this past week. In return, the Yankees get the No. 4 pick in the 2015 draft for their farm system.
