Terry Collins rips Mets after embarrassing loss

The New York Mets dropped to .500 for the first time since April 20 after getting swept at home by the last-place Arizona Diamondbacks.

Manager Terry Collins had seen enough after his team’s 9-0 loss to Arizona on Thursday. He ranted for nearly four minutes in the post-game press conference, ripping his team for lack of effort.

Collins ended his angry speech with a warning to the Mets players.

“Starting tomorrow we’re gonna get after it,” he said. “And those who don’t want to get after it, I will find somebody else who does.”

After reaching the World Series a year ago, the Mets are in danger of missing the playoffs. New York is three games back of the NL’s second wild card.

The Mets are back at home Friday for a three-game series against the San Diego Padres. We’ll see if they heed Collins’ warning and “get after it.” They also get another crack at the Diamondbacks next week.
