Tom Brady Cracks a Joke About “Deflategate”

For Patriots fans, “Deflategate” is no laughing matter.  That didn’t stop Tom Brady from using a moment of levity to diffuse the tension that has defined this Patriots’ off-season.

Brady and his teammates were present yesterday evening at the team’s Patriots Premiere, a gala benefiting the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation held at Gillette Stadium. During one of the interview sessions, Brady was asked if he did something fun to celebrate the Patriots’ Super Bowl Championship.

“Yeah, it’s been such an enjoyable off-season,” replied Brady.

The deadpan response caused an eruption of laughter from the crowd.   Brady later expounded on what he felt was the most memorable part of his summer, namely wide receiver Julian Edelman’s Instagram exploits.

“When he rubbed the mud all over his body, that’s probably the one I enjoyed most.”

Brady contributed more than just laughs to the event.  One fan bid $85,000 for the opportunity to participate in a quarterback clinic lead by the three-time Super Bowl MVP.

All in all, the fundraiser appeared to be a great way for the Patriots and their fans to focus on something other than PSI for an evening.  With Judge Berman set to rule on Brady’s case this week, we will soon know if Brady’s quip is the last laugh in this drawn-out saga.
