Tyrann Mathieu says David Johnson is ‘the new Marshall Faulk’

David Johnson said he feels unstoppable after the Arizona Cardinals’ win last night. The second-year running back carried 27 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns, adding three receptions for 28 yards in a 33-21 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu reminded folks on Twitter Friday what he said about Johnson last year.

Faulk, of course, is the only player to amass 12,000 yards rushing and 6,000 yards receiving. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Johnson leads the NFL in rushing with 457 yards, and the Northern Iowa product has added 238 receiving yards, which is the most by a running back this season.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Johnson is the first player in Cardinals history to have 100 scrimmage yards in each of the team’s first five games of a season.

Johnson does a lot of the things Faulk did well during his career, so Mathieu is not far off comparing his teammate to the former Colts and Rams running back, but Johnson has to keep this up if he wants to be compared to the best.
