It’s been 15 games since Wilmer Flores took over the starting third base duties from injured David Wright. In that span, he’s hit better than .350. But it was his glove that was the story in the early going of the Mets’ game against Atlanta on Sunday afternoon.
In the top of the second, Jace Peterson lifted a high pop-up. Flores drifted over into foul territory — near the tarpaulin — and adjusted to make a twisting, backhanded catch. As he made play, Flores fell over and landed between the side wall and the tarp.

Making the catch was a feat in itself, but managing to hold on to the ball while landing awkwardly only added to the degree of difficulty.
