There is no better story in the league right now than the Buffalo Bills. They are coming off of an improbable win over the Patriots last week, and they seem to be on top of the league in every sense of the word.
But it seems as if Vegas has not completely bought into the Bills success. They are travelling to Cincinnati this week, and are only favoured by 3.5 points. while that extra half point is huge, just like every time you see a 3.5, 7.5, 10.5, 13.5 or 14.5 line.
Cinci has done little to impress this season, aside from a minor offensive explosion in Week 2. Andy Dalton is still trying to find himself in this league, and AJ Green is going through the typical growing pains of a rookie wideout. They will both be in tough against a vastly improved Bills defence.
Nick Barnett is the man in charge of the new look Bills D, and he does not seem likely to allow the useless running attack of Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott to gouge him for much between the tackles.
With Barnett’s partners in crime Jairus Byrd stacking the box against the run, it seems likely that the Bungles will be forced to throw the ball early and often.
It is unclear at this point if Jerome Simpson will be suiting up opposite Green for Cinci. Ever since that little incident where a few pounds of high quality hydro arrived at his house, he has been a little preoccupied.
However there is some help coming through the air for Dalton. Sophomore tight end Jermaine Gresham is getting his game going early in the season, and he could be that safety valve that the ginger TCU grad needs when Marcell Dareus and Shawne Merriman come through on the blitz.
For the Bills, it has been a year of offensive dominance, and the Bengals do not exactly provide the imposing defence necessary to deter the aerial attack. Ryan Fitzpatrick and co. have been shredding apart opposing defences like it is going out of style thus far, while Fred Jackson continues to make an argument to be placed amongst the elite backs in the league.
While the rate at which the Bills are scoring points is surely not sustainable, given the cast of fellows who are making headlines. From Scott Chandler to David Nelson, it is unlikely that this cast of characters keeps up this absurd pace.
But can the Bills continue their hot run and put a beat down on the Bengals? This should not be an issue. It could get out of hand with the Bills winning by double digits.
