It’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it: Super Bowl Edition

New York Giants 21, New England Patriots 17 – We Are The Champions by Queen

This year we went through all major wins and all brutal losses matching them with great songs from the history of Rock and Roll. After another classic Super Bowl in Indy, there is only one song that is fitting.

A quick way to recap this game was just to say that Eli’s guys made the big plays where Brady’s couldn’t.

After a slow first half dominated by the Giants, they found themselves down on the scoreboard. The pace of the game picked up in the second half, though. There was back and forth action as NFL fans watched one of the game’s new great rivalries battle it up for the league’s biggest prize.

The game could have been summed up in 3 big plays that decided this year’s champs.

1) Tom Brady led his troops down the field with a 2 point game and had a chance to put this game away. Brady threw a solid back shoulder throw to a sure handed Wes Welker and the Patriots were set up to take a 9 point lead.

But whoops! Welker, who has probably made this play a thousand times, failed to come up with the grab on the game’s biggest stage. While it would have been a tough catch to bring down it was one that will be in his nightmares for a long time.

2) After a field goal the score stood: Patriots 17 Giants 12. Cool, calm and collected, Eli Manning did what he has been doing all season long: elevate his play in the fourth quarter. Knowing the game was on the line, Eli avoided a pass rush and threw a gorgeous sideline pass to Mario Manningham 38 yards down the field. While the throw was gorgeous, the catch might have even been better as Super Mario was able to get both feet down and maintain possession.

3) Ahmad Bradshaw runs through the D-Line and scores the touchdown that takes the lead with 1 minute left. While the decision will be debated for years as to whether it was the right move to go in right away or to play for the field goal and keep Brady from getting the ball back, it didn’t matter as the Bradshaw score was the eventual last score of the game.

Congrats to the New York Football Giants on a great super bowl and season and on Eli growing up. We’ll be back next year for some more NFL Rock N Roll!
