Reports are coming in from everywhere that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested in Houston, Texas, early Saturday morning on a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. Peterson was released from jail later on Saturday on a $1,000 bond.
Peterson and his group were at a downtown Houston night club at closing time when he was asked to leave by a club bouncer who was also an off-duty police officer. Words were exchanged when Peterson was asked to leave a second time.
The Houston Police Department says Peterson shoved the bouncer and, when informed he was under arrest, began yelling, pulled away and “assumed an aggressive stance,” according to the version told by usatoday.com. Another off-duty officer arrived to assist. Peterson allegedly resisted both.
Club manager Daniel Maher says Peterson frequented the club, but was not known as much of a drinker. On this occasion, “Peterson was very drunk and a difficult customer all night,” according to a story on TMZ.com.
I just cannot picture Adrian Peterson as involved in this incident and expect to hear that it’s some other person by the same name. Uncharacteristic drinking is often proceeded by receipt of bad news.
The arrest was captured on club surveillance cameras. A spokesman for the Vikings said the team “was aware of the situation and working to gather more information.” Yes, and so is NFL Security.
How soon before we get these guys into training camp?
