Plaxico Burress got out of a 125 mph speeding ticket

Plaxico Burress has kept his name out of the news this season, largely because no team signed him this offseason (after an eight touchdown 2011 campaign with the Jets). But today, Burress had his name pop up in the news, for yet another off the field incident.

Burress received a speeding ticket for going 125 mph in a 70 mph zone in Broward County, Florida. That's a pretty serious traffic violation, regardless of how you feel about the speed limit. But Burress actually got off the hook with the charges related to his ticket after his lawyer, Bradford Cohen, argued that the law cited on Burress' copy of the ticket wasn't the correct law that he was being charged with. Despite the citing officer changing his copy of the ticket after the fact, Burress' copy was incorrect, and the charges were dropped.

Now, I have no idea what law was cited on Burress' copy of the citation, but it couldn't have been that far off from the speeding charge, could it? Something has finally gone Burress' way after he shot himself in the leg in November of 2008 and ended up serving jail time. Ironically, this is the second time (that we know of) where Burress has had traffic tickets thrown out in court. Back in March of 2009, Burress was cited for a myriad of charges (including speeding), but the tickets were thrown out in court when Cohen argued that the officer didn't give Burress any information on how to pay the tickets.
