Five NFL dynasties that never were

Buffalo Bills, 1988-1993
Championships: 0
Playoff wins: 10
Record: 70-26 (2nd in NFL during that span)
Biggest dynasty obstacles: NFC East juggernauts, four Super Bowl losses

Maybe everything would have been different had Scott Norwood’s game-winning field goal attempt at the conclusion of Super Bowl XXV not missed wide right. That was Buffalo’s first Super Bowl appearance, coming two years after Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly led them to only their second playoff win of the modern era.

Buffalo would get back to the Super Bowl three years in a row after that, making them the only team in NFL history to win four consecutive conference championships. That’s an incredible accomplishment on its own, but with that loss to the Giants and the following three blowout losses at the hands of Washington (1991) and Dallas (1992 and 1993), the Bills could never be considered a dynasty.
